From March 14 to August 23, 2026, the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation presents “Rothko in Florence”, one of the most important exhibitions ever dedicated to Mark Rothko, the undisputed master of 20th-century art. Curated by Christopher Rothko and Elena Geuna, the show traces the artist’s entire creative journey—from his early works in the 1930s and 1940s to the iconic abstract canvases of the 1950s and 1960s—featuring over 70 works from major international institutions. Designed specifically for Palazzo Strozzi, the exhibition highlights the special connection between Rothko and Florence, the perfect setting to explore how his painting balances classical restraint with expressive freedom.
“Rothko in Florence” is promoted and organized by the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, Florence, with the significant collaboration of two key institutions of the Italian Ministry of Culture: the Regional Directorate of Museums of Tuscany – Museo di San Marco, and the Medicea Laurenziana Library.
