Apartment Paulista — A Cinematic Architectural Tour Through Art, Space, and Geometry Located on Avenida Paulista, one of the most vibrant and dynamic avenues in São Paulo, Apartamento Paulista is a 680 m² residence completed in 2024 by Studio Gaibola, led by architects Federico Concilio and Miguel Croce. Conceived as a living gallery for a remarkable collection of modern and contemporary art, the project was designed to host large-scale paintings and sculptural pieces, redefining the relationship between architecture, interior design, and curation. The result is an immersive spatial experience where living and exhibiting become inseparable. The architectural concept is built on a compelling paradox: the need for expansive wall surfaces to display art, while simultaneously opening up the apartment to create fluid, connected living spaces.
This tension becomes the driving force behind the design, resulting in a carefully balanced composition of openness and structure. A recurring geometric language, centered around diamond and triangular forms, unfolds throughout the apartment, from the marquetry of the entrance door to custom handles, ceiling details, and bespoke furniture elements. What begins as a response to an oversized structural pillar evolves into a unifying design motif, expressed across multiple scales and materials. Strategically placed angled walls introduce new surfaces for artwork without fragmenting the space, subtly guiding views and circulation. These interventions create moments of discovery, framing perspectives and naturally drawing the eye from the entrance toward the terrace, a rare extension of the social area within such a dense urban context. Materiality plays a central role in shaping the atmosphere.
Brazilian stones, particularly a striking brown quartzite, anchor the social areas, while a sequence of carefully defined environments introduces a layered, almost narrative experience. Each space is conceived as a distinct yet cohesive “room within a room,” balancing identity and continuity. Rather than neutrality, the project embraces character. Furniture pieces, themselves part of a curated collection, stand out as protagonists within the space, reinforcing the apartment’s identity as both a home and an exhibition setting. This film presents a poetic and cinematic journey through the project, capturing not only its architectural logic, but also its atmosphere, textures, and the subtle interplay between art, light, and movement. More than a documentation, it is an invitation to experience how architecture can shape perception, guide the eye, and create moments of surprise.
