There are certain elements of everyday Greek life that, despite the passing of time, continue to carry a strong emotional resonance. The periptero (newsstand kiosk), which for more than 110 years has remained a vibrant part of the urban landscape, is undoubtedly one of them.

This familiar symbol is the one that Zeus+Δione has chosen to reinterpret through a contemporary summer lens. An idea that had been in the mind of the brand’s CEO and Founder, Dimitra Kolotoura, for many years has now found its ideal setting at the historic Oasis pool of The Ilisian, a landmark deeply embedded in Athens’ social and cultural history.

Rendered in a vibrant shade of yellow, the structure stands out against the relaxed atmosphere of the pool, introducing a distinctly urban reference into a setting poised between leisure and Mediterranean ease. The brand’s new meeting point was unveiled during a summer gathering attended by members of the media and the House of Nynn community.

The installation evokes the small neighbourhood kiosks that for decades formed an integral part of daily life in Athens and throughout Greece—places where everyday purchases coexisted with brief conversations, exchanges of local news, and the constant rhythm of the city.

Preserving the exact proportions and scale of the traditional periptero, Zeus+Δione reimagines its function for today. In place of the classic assortment of newspapers, cigarettes, and convenience goods, visitors now discover swimwear, sunglasses, clothing, beach accessories, and a curated selection of seasonal objects. Magazines and small-format publications reference the iconic display windows of traditional kiosks, creating a dialogue between memory and contemporary retail culture.

To mark the occasion, Zeus+Δione also produced a special one-sheet “newspaper,” printed exclusively for the event, offering a retrospective look at the history and cultural significance of the Greek kiosk.

The result is a subtle yet functional intervention that honours the memory of the original periptero while bringing it into the present day. It is almost exactly as we remember it—except that now it faces the pool, beneath the Athenian summer sun.

A special highlight of the event was the participation of visual artist Andreas Finch, who presented his ongoing research into Greek kiosks and their role in the history of urban life. A selection of his miniature works was also on display. Through his practice, Finch reconstructs architectural remnants, abandoned sites, and urban myths, creating compositions that exist somewhere between personal memory and urban archaeology. His presence served as a natural extension of the project’s central concept, reinforcing the dialogue between collective memory, the city, and the enduring symbolism of the Greek kiosk.
