Penthouse Frankfurt is a 400 m² residence in Frankfurt’s Westend, created at the top of a listed Wilhelminian-era building. What began as the necessary replacement of the existing roof developed into a fundamental architectural transformation, opening the upper levels toward light, views, and a new roof garden above the city.
The former mansard geometry was reworked to create a more generous and continuous spatial experience. Kitchen, living, and dining areas now =ow into one another, de<ned by long sightlines, vertical surfaces, and a broad connection to the planted terrace. Although the apartment remains within the same historic building, the atmosphere changes completely at the upper level, shifting from the traditional character below to a lighter, distinctly midcentury-in=uenced interior.
Holzrausch Studio developed the interior as a holistic composition in which architecture, bespoke joinery, lighting, materials, and furniture form one continuous language. A substantial stainless-steel kitchen block forms one of the central elements, while technical components and appliances are carefully integrated intotimber fronts to preserve the calm, uninterrupted reading of the space.
Kambala wood plays a particularly important role. Its warmth and depth establish the character of the interior, while the choice of materials was guided by the idea that surfaces should age naturally and acquire patina over time. Within the otherwise calm spatial order, a sculptural curved staircase introduces a more theatrical moment and leads toward an upper study overlooking the roof garden.
The result is a home in which historic fabric and contemporary intervention read as one continuous whole: architecturally precise, tactile, and distinctly lived-in.

Philosophy
When dealing with interior spaces, holzrausch follows an integrated approach: planning, design and production are done in close collaboration with all those involved. holzrausch applies
their design language to everything they do. But they also work together with building owners, architects and planners to implement their design wishes.
