Face is a special composition comprising a mix of eight figurative elements that are combined to form a multitude of faces, never depicted literally, but rather as an impression that emerges through the juxtaposition of its details. The mix is available exclusively in Chalk, in both gloss and matt finishes.
Faces & Figures is born from the encounter between the body and clay. It is from this primordial relationship—in which clay receives the gesture, preserves its memory and returns the trace of contact—that the first collaboration between Faye Toogood and Mutina takes shape: a collection that transforms the language of sculpture into an architectural system, capable of bringing a silent and deeply human presence into space. The project stems from a material and instinctive process: dozens of models and edges worked entirely by hand, cardboard studies, clay maquettes and continuous experiments on the human figure are progressively reduced to fluid and essential forms. No longer figurative elements, but archetypes: modules capable of repeating, combining and building surfaces, walls and volumes. From this research emerges a project developed through complementary systems, each dedicated to exploring a different dialogue between the human figure and architecture.
Mutina has announced a new collaboration with Faye Toogood, one of the most original and distinctive figures on the contemporary creative scene. British artist, designer and creative director Faye Toogood has long pursued a cross-disciplinary practice spanning art, design, architecture and fashion. Her work is defined by a sculptural, instinctive language that challenges the boundaries between disciplines and places material at the heart of the creative process.
Her collaboration with Mutina stems from a shared vision: to approach ceramics not simply as an architectural surface, but as a living material—one that engages the senses and transforms the perception of space. “For me Mutina is very thoughtful, very determined. A force, someone that wants to make a change,” states Toogood.
The new collection has been unveiled from 21st to 25th September at Spazio Mutina. It marks a new chapter in the brand’s ongoing exploration of materiality, born from a dialogue with one of the most radical voices in international design.
