For Milan Design Week 2026, So-Le Studio, the jewelry and accessories brand founded in 2019 by Maria Sole Ferragamo, unveils Lucemuta, its first lighting design project. Presented at the brand’s boutique on Via Sant’Andrea 10, within Portrait Milano, the piece is the result of a collaboration with Bottega Ghianda, the historic Italian workshop renowned for its masterful woodworking.
Originally conceived as a research-driven project focused on the conscious reuse of materials, So-Le Studio is built around a vision that combines formal experimentation with responsible production. The brand transforms surplus and discarded materials, particularly leather and metal, into sculptural objects where aesthetics and function coexist in balance. Leather sourced from the deadstock of major fashion houses is not treated as waste, but as a valuable existing resource that, through an upcycling process, acquires renewed identity and purpose.
The meeting with entrepreneur Romeo Sozzi, Ceo of Bottega Ghianda and guardian of a craft culture grounded in rigor, precision and exceptional quality, allowed this research to naturally extend into the scale of furniture. So-Le Studio’s vision thus meets the refined woodworking tradition of Bottega Ghianda, giving life to a lamp conceived as a coherent evolution of the brand’s language, from jewelry to the more architectural and structural dimension of space.
Wood, central to Bottega Ghianda’s practice, and leather, a defining element of So-Le Studio’s creations, interact within a structure built on carefully balanced contrasts: geometry and lightness, solidity and void, tension and softness. Light is not an added feature but an integral part of the design. It filters through the materials, highlighting their textures and casting layered, ever-changing shadows.
At the heart of the project lies a significant shift in scale, rooted in Maria Sole Ferragamo’s architectural background: from the scale of the body to that of the surrounding environment. Lucemuta is conceived almost as a “wearable jewel” for space, a structured organism in which every element responds to an internal logic of proportion and tension. Even when unlit, it stands as a sculptural presence, a complete form in its own right. When illuminated, light reveals rather than defines the object, passing through the materials to emphasize their texture and create subtle, evolving reflections. Designed to be light and movable, the lamp activates the spaces it inhabits. Its position and movement subtly transform perception and spatial relationships, establishing a different dialogue with its surroundings each time while maintaining a clear formal identity. Three color variations further articulate the design, emphasizing the dialogue between materials that lies at the core of the brand’s research.
Bottega Ghianda oversaw the woodworking and lighting engineering, contributing its technical expertise and manufacturing excellence. So-Le Studio developed the leather component, bringing its sculptural sensibility, attention to detail inherited from jewelry design, and a continued commitment to sustainability. As with the brand’s collections, the lamp uses exclusively recovered deadstock leather, reintroducing it into a virtuous cycle of transformation rather than waste.
“I had long wanted to expand the collection into furniture and experiment with a different scale,” says Maria Sole Ferragamo. “I approach each design as a kind of organism, where nothing is purely decorative, every element has a function. Meeting Romeo Sozzi and the extraordinary craft tradition of Bottega Ghianda made this transition possible. Bringing leather and wood, jewelry and furniture into dialogue felt both natural and deeply aligned with my research.”
This project marks a new chapter for the brand: a natural extension of its design language, where craftsmanship, lightness and structural precision converge in a luminous object that is at once structure, material and narrative.
