Good news for people who don’t need summer to justify a trip to the sea.

By October 15, Mèlisses closes for the winter. Well, most of it. Coral Cottage stays open because Coral Cottage is a little independent thing. It has its own entrance, its own fully equipped indoor kitchen, its own saltwater pool and, importantly, its own very good view of the sea. So technically, it has everything it needs to survive without us. Luckily, we are still around to leave you vegetables from the garden and fresh eggs from the hens.
We wanted to give you a little taste of winter at Coral Cottage, so we put together a little visual tour. Read on, press play on the videos, and let us take you there for a while. Enjoy!

10.33 AM. You wake up to the sea outside your window.
No alarm. No rush. Just the sound of the wind and the thought of making a cup of herbal tea.

The view from the patio is almost distracting. So you sit outside for a while and look at it.
The saltwater pool has turned turquoise-grey in the winter light, reflecting the vegetation around it. You probably won’t swim. You’ll sit beside it instead, watching the ripples in the water. It’s surprisingly relaxing.

And then, there’s the sea. Endless Aegean blue, with Gyaros looking almost within reach.
You walk down through the garden. 135 stone steps later, you open the little iron gate and you’re there.

The air smells salty and clean. The sun is warm on your jumper. The rocks have kept some of the midday heat, so you sit down and watch a few fishing boats move across the horizon. The sea goes from bright blue to silver as the clouds pass.

After a while, you head back up.
You find the wooden cupboard, in the living room, full of books. You take one to the sofa. It’s warm inside and very easy to get comfortable.
A few pages later, your tea is cold.
This is how things tend to go at Coral Cottage. You get into a book and forget about the tea. You start a film and forget about your phone. You sit down to work and, somehow, actually concentrate.
*Turns out working from home from another home works pretty well, especially with Coral Cottage’s high-speed 5G.
