The George & Aristea Mamidakis Foundation invites Greek and international artists to apply for the 2027 Art Prize.
The Art Prize supports and promotes contemporary artists, offering them the opportunity to create a new work of art that will remain on permanent display in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, become part of the Foundation’s art collection, and contribute to an important cultural legacy.
The Foundation invites artists from around the world to submit proposals for a large-scale sculptural installation, conceived for permanent outdoor display as a landmark within the site. The winning proposal will stand out for its originality, site-specificity and creative composition. Proposals will be evaluated according to the clarity and conceptual coherence of the work, its relationship to the site and the context in which it intervenes, and its ability to offer an active experience to the viewer. The scale of the work and its integration into the surrounding environment, as well as technical and constructional feasibility, public safety, sustainability and maintenance requirements, will also be taken into consideration.
The 2027 Art Prize is open to visual artists working across sculpture, installation, sound installation, mixed media, constructions using natural materials, land art, environmental art, ecological art, and practices that bring art and nature together to create innovative interventions in open spaces.
The selected proposal will receive an €15,000 prize, while the Foundation will also cover the costs of producing the work, as well as the artist’s travel and accommodation expenses. The selected artist will have the period from February to May 2027 to create the awarded work.
The winning work will be presented to the public at an open-air ceremony in June 2027 and will remain on permanent public display.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday, 30 December 2026, at 23:59 Greek time (GMT+2). Applications, in Greek or English, must be submitted exclusively through the dedicated application form available on the Foundation’s website.

Brown & Wayne Garrett, for Chronotopia (2026).
The Foundation’s collection brings together original works by prominent Greek and international artists, including Magdalena Abakanowicz, Lynda Benglis, Cecilia Campos, Theodoros, Kostas Varotsos, Maria Loizidou, Kostas Tsoklis, Rena Papaspirou, Angelos Skourtis, Kostas Ioannidis, Nikos Alexiou, Giorgos Lappas, Nikos Kessanlis, Georgia Kotretsos, Giorgos Gyparakis, Yiannis Parmakelis, Maria Louizou and many others.
