What happens when creativity meets an obstacle? Is it the end, or the beginning of a new journey?
Kanella Arapoglou presents Left Hand Notes, a project explor- ing what happens when we set control aside and try a differ- ent way of creativity.
Left Hand Notes began as an attempt to overcome a creative block. Inspired by research into the use of the non-dominant hand and its connection to the formation of new neural con- nections, Kanella began a personal experiment: to sketch with her left hand, despite being right-handed.
The process opened up space for a different way of observing,
thinking and expressing. Uncertain lines, “mistakes” and un- expected forms became part of the process, leading to a freer relationship between hand, eye and thought. As conventional rules began to recede, the brain and hand learned to work to- gether again in a new way.
Some sketches were so unclear that they gradually began to be accompanied by words, notes and small comments, which became an integral part of the compositions.
The experiment continued as the spontaneous sketches were em- broidered. Threads and fabrics added another dimension, mate- riality and time to the process.
At a time when speed and automation dominate, the exhibition proposes a return to slow observation, to the “mistake” and to the joy of discovery.
The exhibition is curated by StudioLav. The shared studio of the two creative practices becomes a meeting place, where the exhibition coexists with an environment of production and creativity.

Kanella Arapoglou’s Creative Practice
Kanella Arapoglou develops a creative practice that connects visual communication, art and craft. She moves between different creative practices, carrying ma- terials, techniques and ways of thinking from one to another. Through this process, she creates work in which narrative, image and materiality coexist.
Embroidery is a constant thread throughout her work. She is interested in it not only as a technique, but also as a prac- tice that has historically been a predominantly female form of creative expression. She repositions it through new mate- rials and subjects, telling stories that traditionally fell outside its realm.
She studied Graphic Design in Athens and Communication Design at Central Saint Martins in London. Her experience in visual communication, combined with more than ten years of teaching at the University of West Attica, continues to shape the way she approaches creativity. kanella.com
