Galatone Apartment demonstrates how a compact historic residence can be transformed through a clear architectural vision that prioritises space, light and material authenticity. Set within the fabric of a traditional Salento townhouse, the project preserves the building’s defining architectural features while introducing a restrained contemporary language. Rather than separating old and new, the design allows them to coexist naturally, creating interiors that feel both rooted in history and distinctly modern.
The sequence of spaces is shaped by the building’s generous proportions, with soaring vaulted ceilings establishing a strong sense of volume and continuity. Natural light filters through carefully positioned openings, highlighting the texture of limewashed walls, historic stone surfaces and bespoke interventions. The relationship between enclosed rooms and the expansive roof terrace extends the spatial experience beyond the interior, creating a fluid dialogue between architecture, light and the surrounding townscape.
Throughout the project, the emphasis remains on simplicity and precision. A restrained palette of natural materials, custom furnishings and carefully integrated contemporary elements allows the existing architecture to remain the focal point. Galatone Apartment presents a sensitive reinterpretation of a historic dwelling, where heritage, craftsmanship and contemporary living are brought together in a calm and cohesive architectural composition.
