Located in El Gouna, on the shores of the Red Sea, La Maison Bleue reveals itself as an intimate and peaceful retreat. With its elegant suites, Mediterranean flavors, and seaside escapes, this refined haven invites guests to slow down and savor an exceptional moment out of time.
On Egypt’s coastline, between desert mountains and the crystal-clear waters of a private lagoon, La Maison Bleue reveals itself as an unexpected refuge. In El Gouna, the sun-drenched oasis of the Red Sea, this pastel-hued palace rises like a mirage.
From the moment you arrive, everything encourages you to slow down and embrace the silence. Just thirteen suites. No crowds, no noise—only the whisper of the wind, the gentle rustle of palm trees, and the soft echo of water.
Originally conceived as a private family home by Samih Sawiris, architect Olivier Sednaoui, and decorator and antique dealer Amr Khalil, the residence once welcomed friends. Today, it preserves that same spirit: a place that feels warm, intimate, and truly lived in.
In 2024, La Maison Bleue joined the prestigious Relais & Châteaux family, without losing any of its original soul.
This place is, above all, marked by the imprint of Amr Khalil—his attention to detail, his love of antiques, his theatrical eye. Every room tells a story: inlaid marble floors, frescoes inspired by Minoan art, hand-painted ceilings, carefully sourced furniture, and antique canvases. A blend of influences—Minoan, Ottoman, Byzantine, and the Riviera of the 1900s—flirting with extravagance while remaining timelessly elegant.
The suites, spacious and filled with light, open onto private terraces overlooking the lagoon or the mountains. Some feature private pools, others offer direct access to the beach. Inside, you’ll find soaring vaulted ceilings, domed bathrooms, imperial beds, and that rare feeling of being at home in a truly exceptional setting.
At the helm of the house is Jane Drotter, a former Michelin-starred chef in Paris, who oversees operations with gentle precision. Upon her arrival, she explored the archives, rediscovered the original spirit of the residence, and breathed new life into Amr Khalil’s memories. The atmosphere is at once relaxed and sophisticated, embodied by a discreet and attentive team.
The dining experience, led by chef Vincent Guillou, celebrates both Mediterranean and Egyptian cuisine: Marseille-style bouillabaisse, slow-cooked lamb navarin, and mouloukhiya evoking childhood flavors. Cocktails feature ingredients from the house garden, such as basil-infused gin, homemade pisco, and freshly squeezed lemon.
Facing the pool, the Spa unfolds as a sanctuary of well-being. A traditional hammam, hot and cold plunge pools, Ayurvedic and Chinese-inspired treatments, yoga and Pilates sessions, and personalized consultations ensure that every program is tailored to the rhythm and needs of each guest.
La Maison Bleue is also a project with a strong commitment to sustainability. El Gouna operates as a sustainable ecosystem, powered by solar and wind energy. Freshwater is produced through reverse osmosis, while recycled wastewater irrigates farms and the golf course. In October 2025, the nearby restaurant Botanica will open, offering a farm-to-table culinary experience using hydroponically grown produce—plants cultivated without soil. Additionally, a 22-meter yacht, the TEE, offers marine excursions, from swimming with dolphins to leisurely lunches at sea.
La Maison Bleue is not just any hotel. It is a home for those who dream of a destination that is both luxurious and authentic—a place where every detail has a soul. A sanctuary to reconnect, and to rediscover beauty in the simplicity of the present moment.
