THE NEW SEASON AT ONASSIS STEGI BEGINS WITH WORLD PREMIERES, MUSIC, THEATRE, AND NEW VENUES
In the midst of summer, Onassis Stegi unveils the first highlights of its new season. A meditative water installation in the heart of Athens, Alan Turing reimagined through the explosive theatrical universe of Łukasz Twarkowski, a one-day edition of the Borderline Festival with an outstanding lineup, Soundwalk Collective’s new audiovisual installation in its world premiere featuring the sonic signature of Jim Jarmusch, and the sold-out Oedipus are among the first events to be announced.
The new season opens with audiences welcomed into a new venue: the newly renovated Onassis Mandra on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. It launches with an immersive visual and sonic installation that offers a rare moment of tranquility in the heart of the bustling city. Clinamen, by French composer and visual artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, arrives in Athens (September 25–December 6) following presentations at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris in 2025 and the Park Avenue Armory in New York in 2026. The installation invites visitors to attune themselves to the sound of silence through a vast blue waterscape where hundreds of white ceramic bowls float across three specially designed pools. As the bowls drift, meet, and gently collide, they generate an ever-changing soundscape that draws audiences into a meditative journey.
For the first time, the acclaimed Clinamen takes on a new dimension as it is presented outdoors, surrendering itself to shade, wind, voices, the sounds and echoes of Athens, and the forces of nature—light, breeze, and rain—within the city’s only surviving open-air Belle Époque theatre. It is a work that effortlessly rewards the time we give it.
Borderline Festival returns on October 9 in a special one-day format featuring three stages at Onassis Ready and an explosive lineup. In collaboration with ReSolute (NYC), Ricardo Villalobos—the defining figure of minimal house and microhouse—returns to Athens for the first time in twelve years with a rare four-hour DJ set. Nightmares On Wax, one of the pioneering artists of electronic trip hop and a longstanding member of the legendary Warp Records roster, also joins the festival. Lebanese singer Yasmine Hamdan, whose haunting appearance in Jim Jarmusch’s landmark film Only Lovers Left Alive left an unforgettable impression on audiences, brings her mesmerizing voice to Athens, blending traditional Middle Eastern sounds with the energy of electro-folk pop.
Internationally acclaimed Greek indie-pop singer-songwriter Σtella, now signed to the iconic American label Sub Pop and performing regularly at some of the world’s leading music festivals, will make a special appearance in this compact edition of Borderline, which promises many more surprises.
Following ROHTKO and Respublika, Łukasz Twarkowski—now firmly established on the stages of Europe’s leading theatres and festivals—returns to Onassis Stegi with Oracle (October 15–18). This immersive theatrical universe explores Alan Turing, the code that changed history, the birth of artificial intelligence, and the darker dimensions of technological progress, while also paying tribute to those who dared to push beyond accepted limits, whatever the personal cost.
Theatre, live cinema, powerful music, and real-life stories converge in an experience that leaves audiences breathless. Thermal and infrared cameras, immersive soundscapes, and cinematic projections dissolve the boundaries between reality and illusion. Visually spectacular and intellectually provocative, Oracle reflects on Turing’s story while placing it alongside forgotten lives and overlooked biographies that haunt the margins of official history. It is a visually and dramaturgically explosive work about the cost of human ambition and progress, created by an artist who continues to redefine the possibilities of contemporary performance.
From October 22 to November 1, 2026, Soundwalk Collective join forces with the iconic independent filmmaker Jim Jarmusch for the world premiere of their new audiovisual installation, The Future Doesn’t Need You, at Onassis Ready. A title that serves as both warning and provocation, it imagines a world capable of continuing without us.
Setting his camera aside, Jarmusch returns to his other great passion—music. Over recent years, he has developed a distinctive hypnotic guitar sound, most notably through his duo SQÜRL and, more recently, Sonic Prayer with Patti Smith for the Holy See Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Following that collaboration, Soundwalk Collective reunite with Onassis Stegi to create a new work exploring the melting of glaciers and the unimaginable future it foreshadows.
At the heart of the installation is a continuous guitar drone performed by Jarmusch himself—an unstable, unresolved resonance, as though a glacier continues to pulse even as it disappears. The installation is accompanied by a programme of live concerts and performances featuring different artists each evening, alongside a film series curated by Jim Jarmusch, bringing together works that return to the same urgent questions: What do we leave behind? What is lost? What endures? The future may not need us. The present, however, demands that we listen now.
Finally, following last season’s sold-out run, Robert Icke’s Oedipus returns to the Main Stage from November 12 to December 13, 2026. Following acclaimed productions in London’s West End, on Broadway in New York, and at Onassis Stegi in Athens, the Tony and Olivier Award-winning adaptation by the celebrated British playwright and director continues its international journey with new local productions, most recently in Germany.
Sophocles’ 428 BCE tragedy about the relentless force of fate is reimagined through the lens of public image, responsibility, power, and the limits of human agency. Combining relentless dramatic intensity with sardonic humour, the production moves seamlessly between political thriller and family tragedy. It returns with an outstanding cast, featuring Nikos Kouris as Oedipus and Maria Kechagioglou as Jocasta.
Charged with political, social, and existential urgency, this electrifying interpretation of the Oedipus myth returns as one of the season’s essential theatrical events. Tickets are already on sale, with limited availability remaining.
The complete 2026–27 season programme, together with ticket sales for all productions, will be announced in September, introducing new venues, new collaborations, and new experiences.
